Help from Integreat Plus to meet the Building for Life 12 housing standard.
Building for Life 12 is the new Government backed, industry standard for well-designed homes and neighbourhoods. Local communities, authorities and developers are encouraged to use it to stimulate conversations about creating good places to live.
Effective use of the Building for Life can help smooth the way for planning approvals. In addition, for the first time Building for Life can now be used as a marketing tool. Schemes that get 12 green lights can achieve a Built for Life award to demonstrate to buyers that it is a quality development.
Local authority planners, house-builders, planning consultants and architects who design volume housing schemes should all be using BfL12. You can download the guide to BfL12 here.
Integreat Plus, along with other members of the Design Network, offer a range of services to help you to start using BfL12 or make the transition from old BfL. As an independent not-for-profit organisation whose only interest is promoting well-designed developments we are uniquely placed to provide impartial expertise and broker BfL12 conversations.
Built For Life Accreditation
Integreat Plus, in collaboration with the Built for Life Partnership and the Design Network, can offer the accreditation assessment for the Built For Life Quality Mark, the only provider in the Yorkshire region who can undertake this service. For information on the assessment process please refer to the diagram below:
Building for Life 12 Training
We can arrange in-house training for planners, elected members and design teams on the new Building for Life Standard. We will guide you through the 12 questions. Illustrating these with examples of best practice from around the region and beyond.
Building for Life 12 Reviews
Integreat Plus can help facilitate a collaborative review, a design workshop in which all parties jointly assess where a scheme stands against the BfL12 and what needs to be done to achieve those 12 greens. Depending on the size of the scheme we will involve built environment experts from our panel to support the process as well as pre-meetings, site visits and follow up desktop review sessions.
Although the emphasis of BfL12 is on improvement rather than assessment we do recognise that there may be times when an independent expert opinion is needed: to validate a developer or local authority view, to mediate where there is disagreement or check that a scheme has achieved 12 greens and can go forward for Built for Life accreditation. Integreat Plus can provide that independent opinion.
BfL12 reviews can be combined with Integreat Plus’s Design Review service so that the Design Review panel can concentrate on the design aspects of the scheme that need to be improved to achieve green lights.
